Confidence in organized religion at an all time low - National General Religion | Examiner.com
In a recent Gallup poll released yesterday it shows American’s confidence in organized religion at an all time low of 44%. This follows a long term trend of American’s confidence in religion since the 1970’s. The new poll shows it at a lower level than it’s previous lows of 45% in 2002 and 46% in 2007.
With various scandals throughout the years including the televangelist scandals of Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart along with the Catholic sex abuse scandals; confidence in organized religion has waned.
Despite these stats, organized religion/church is ranked fourth among the 16 institutions tested, right on par with the medical system. Other institutions tested included public schools, banks and television news; all of which also recorded all-time lows.
What is your take on these results? Is it just a part of a loss of confidence by American’s period or is there more to it?
